Recruitment of Participants
A taster day was held at Aston Hall on Wednesday 4 September to generate interest in the project. Learning lessons from Represent, they produced a flyer for the project, designed by a company who usually work on club flyers – hence it’s in a style that the target audience might be more familiar with than the ‘standard’ museum leaflet. The flyers were distributed to community venues and were sent with invitations to women who had attended and left their details at the International Women’s Day event held at Aston Hall earlier in the year.

13 women expressed interest and they are confident that more will join as word gets around.

The participants have come from a variety of backgrounds. Only 1 had attended previous courses at South Birmingham College. Another was a regular museum-goer and was keen to build up new skills to pass on to her teenage children.

One of the participants was so focussed on the course that she has re-scheduled her holiday to Gambia to during the Christmas holidays (when it’s much more expensive) so that she doesn’t have to miss any of the course.
